The predicted Manchester United team to face Crystal Palace could see young ace Alejandro Garnacho make his full Premier League debut, should he recover from illness.

Up-and-down form has been a feature of United’s season. While they were challenging for a top-four finish for a while, the chances of finishing within the top four ended a while back.

In the last few weeks, their form has continued in the same vein it has for much of the campaign. Following a 3-2 victory over Norwich City, helped by a game-saving hat-trick by Cristiano Ronaldo, United lost their next two.

Rivals Liverpool smashed the Red Devils 4-0, and Arsenal dealt them a 3-1 loss the following match. While they managed a 1-1 draw against Chelsea the next game, and a 3-0 win over Brentford after that, they slipped to a massive defeat the following fixture.

United were dealt a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of mid-table Brighton. The only thing left to play for in United’s season is a Europa League place for next season. They need to better West Ham’s result to finish in sixth, and guarantee a spot in the competition.

Youngster Garnacho has been beating down the door for a place in Man Utd‘s senior squad with his performances of late. The 17-year-old scored seven goals and provided three assists in United’s triumphant FA Youth Cup campaign, including a brace in the final.

Ralf Rangnick mentioned a potential setback on course to his full debut ahead of the match. The manager said he had been ill, and “might be back” for the game, but may not be fit to play.

Rangnick also touched on the fitness of Jadon Sancho and Phil Jones, who may miss out, as they “couldn’t finish” training.

David De Gea started in net. The centre-back positions were filled by Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof.

In the full-back positions, Alex Telles played on the left, with Diogo Dalot on the right. The defensive performance from that five was a big contrast to the previous game against Brentford, when they kept a clean sheet.

Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic were utilised as the holding-midfield players.

Bruno Fernandes, Juan Mata and Anthony Elanga played in the advanced roles.

Star striker Ronaldo started up top, and failed to score, after notching six goals in his four previous appearances.

Predicted Man Utd team against Crystal Palace

De Gea should once again start in net. Harry Maguire could come back into the side, after returning from injury with a 20 minute run out last game. He will likely partner Varane at centre-back.

Dalot and Telles could once again flank the central defenders. The entire back line will hope for a better performance than in the last match.

With Fred likely having been able to get back up to speed following an injury of his own, he could return to the midfield, to partner McTominay.

Fernandes and Elanga are likely to retain their spots behind the striker. Marcus Rashford could return, should his illness have cleared up, with Sancho a doubt. With Garnacho also having been ill, he may not be risked from the start, but could make an appearance from the bench.

Garnacho’s wait for a full Premier League debut could therefore go on. He came on as a late substitute in a recent 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Ronaldo should be the lone striker again, his goal threat will be key, with United hoping to gain all three points and secure Europa League football.

Predicted Man Utd XI: De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Telles; Fred, McTominay; Elanga, Fernandes, Rashford; Ronaldo
