England pacer James Anderson said that he would prefer Indian skipper Virat Kohli averaging 80 if England are 1-0 up. Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s batting woes continued in the third Test against England as once again his nemesis Anderson found out the out edge from his bat to dismiss him for the second time on this tour so far.

We have to remember Virat Kohli is averaging 20 in the series: James Anderson

It would have been much relief for Anderson after the scenes that happened at Lord’s where he was involved in an exchange of words with Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. Currently, after his seven runs in Leeds, Kohli averages 17.25 from his four innings in the series.

Ahead of the third Test Anderson had pointed at Kohli’s average to cite how good his bowlers have bowled against him but wished for the opposite result of the series.

“We have to remember Virat is averaging 20 in the series, proving we have bowled well at a great player – but I would rather he was averaging 80 and we were 1-0 up,” Anderson told to Fox Cricket.

Headingley can be a tricky place to bowl: James Anderson

The fact that none of the Indian players has played at Headingleycricket ground before and in the third Test it will be the first time for the entire Indian team playing on the venue in the third Test.

It will be an advantage for England to come back in the series but Anderson, who is playing in his 165th Test, had said that bowling on the Headingley turf will be tricky for the bowlers as the conditions are similar to that of Lord’s.

“Headingley can be a tricky place to bowl. It is similar to Lord’s in some respects because of the pronounced slope. It can be hard to find your rhythm and length. It is about not getting carried away when it is swinging and go searching for fuller length,” Anderson wrote in his column for Daily Mail.

“You can get driven because the pitch is usually pretty good. It is about using the conditions to your advantage but not bowling too full,” Anderson mentioned.

India are leading 1-0 in the five-match Test series and will aim to win their first Test series in England since 2007.
