PREMIER LEAGUE: N'Jie reveals: I turned down Arsenal because Spurs was the only move for me
Tottenham's new £12m striker 'did not even bother talking' to the Gunners because his heart was set on White Hart Lane
New Tottenham signing Clinton N’Jie has already taken a huge step to becoming a White Hart Lane legend by revealing he turned down Arsenal.
The 22-year-old signed a five-year deal with Spurs yesterday after the Gunners had approached his agent.
However, the former Lyon striker said a move to the Emirates never interested him and he added: “I was never scared that my transfer to Tottenham would not be confirmed.
“I never spoke to Arsenal representatives on the phone, they simply contacted my agent. My choice was made, I was determined to join Tottenham.”
In his first interview since his £12 million move, Njie said that he’s excited to work with coach Mauricio Pochettino.
“Here, I will be working under a manager who plays youngsters and allows them to progress,” he said.
“On Thursday, after I arrived in London and had my medical tests, he welcomed me, with the president Daniel Levy, to tell me that he hoped I would be available as quickly as possible. When I arrived in Europe, it was an aim and a dream to play one day in the Premier League.”
Cameroon international Njie admitted that signing for a Premier League club at the age of 22 has come earlier in his career than he expected.
