Premier League's official twitter account deletes post that appears to mock Man Utd's top 4 hopes

The Premier League's official Twitter account has been forced to act swiftly and delete a post that inadvertently appeared to mock Manchester United's standing in the battle to finish in the top four.

The Red Devils somewhat predictably drew 1-1 with Everton on Tuesday evening to register their 12th stalemate of the season.

Currently, on one of the Premier League's more underwhelming unbeaten runs, Jose Mourinho's side now look set to fall away in the race to finish in the top four and may now have to focus solely on qualifying for next season's Champions League by winning the Europa League.

With United enduring yet another disappointing season, opposition fans up and down the country are basking in the club's continuing struggles and the cynics were handed another opportunity to take a pop at Mourinho's men thanks to the help of the Premier League's Twitter account.

A tweet reading: "A point for Man Utd turns up the heat on the top four" was accompanied by a graphic of the current Premier League table, that shows United are four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

Whether it was a genuine attempt to put a positive spin on the Red Devils' top four hopes or not will never be known, but having been inundated with sarcastic responses from fellow Twitter users, the Premier League quickly deleted the post to avoid further ridicule for United.

It seems that no matter how hard anyone tries, it's difficult to be optimistic about United's current form.

Still, at least Jose has the unbeaten run to cling onto...
