Premier League confirms eight new positive coronavirus results after latest round of testing

(Getty Images)The Premier League has confirmed eight new positive Covid-19 results after the latest round of testing.
1,530 players and club staff were involved in the 12th round of testing this season between November 16-22, with those that recorded positive results now required to self-isolate for 10 days in line with Government rules.
The eight new positive tests - announced on the same day as it was confirmed that up to 4,000 fans are set to be allowed into outdoor sports events when the second national lockdown ends next week - come after a season-high 16 were recorded between November 9-15.
In total, 76 players or staff members across Premier League clubs have now tested positive for coronavirus during the 12 rounds of testing in 2020/21.
“The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency,” the Premier League’s official statement concluded.
“No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public after each round of testing.”
On Monday night, Crystal Palace were missing star winger Wilfried Zaha for their top-flight meeting with Burnley at Turf Moor, with the Ivory Coast international isolating after returning a positive Covid result.

Pool via REUTERS"He has tested positive unfortunately for coronavirus so is self-isolating, and is awaiting the results of the next test," said Palace boss Roy Hodgson.
"He is not feeling particularly ill, but unfortunately the test proved [positive], and he is following the procedures.
"We've known about it for a few days. We didn't want to broadcast it to the world because we were rather hoping that the second test might free him to play.
"He's had to self-isolate so now I have to wait for that test to free him because luckily he's not feeling particularly unwell."
The likes of Arsenal duo Mohamed Elneny and Sead Kolasinac and Tottenham’s Matt Doherty all tested positive for Covid-19 while away on international duty, missing the respective matches against Leeds and Manchester City.
Injury-hit Liverpool were also without Mohamed Salah against Leicester after the forward tested positive while on duty with Egypt, but he will return to training this week having now recorded a negative result.
