Just three league nights remain and just three places in the top four play-off spots are left to play for as the Premier League darts bandwagon hits Sheffield on Thursday.

Jonny Clayton booked his spot in the final four showdown in Germany by winning his fourth even of the Premier League season last week, and now faces second-bottom Michael Smith.

With James Wade in hospital after being taken ill at the European Darts Open at the weekend, Joe Cullen will get a bye into the semis.

The Rockstar is chasing fourth-placed Peter Wright, who goes up against Michael van Gerwen in the pick of the quarter-final ties in Sheffield. Gerwyn Price and Gary Anderson play each other with neither really standing a chance of making the top four unless something crazy happens.

Night 14 order of play

Joe Cullen W/O James Wade

Gary Anderson 19:10 Gerwyn Price

Michael van Gerwen 19:40 Peter Wright

Michael Smith 20:10 Jonny Clayton

Semi-finals will start at around 20:40 BST, while the final is expected to take place at 21:45 BST.

Gary Anderson v Gerwyn Price

Gary Anderson actually managed to win a match in the Premier League last week for the first time in seven weeks as he beat Peter Wright before losing to Jonny Clayton. The Scotsman is still bottom are has basically no chance of making the top four as he starts his night against Gerwyn Price, who is still in with a shout but running out of time.

Price is no fan of the format and his form hasn't suggested that he could make a miraculous late charge for the play-offs. Whoever wins this one won't really expect to get too much further.

Michael van Gerwen v Peter Wright

Another weekend and another tournament victory for Michael van Gerwen as he won the European Darts Open and now he heads to Sheffield aiming to confirm his place in the play-offs.

MVG made last week's final, losing to table-topper Jonny Clayton, and in second place he's 13 points ahead of Joe Cullen in fifth.

Peter Wright is fourth and still in danger of being caught so he could really do with a good week to try and create a bigger safety net. It's a tough start to his night though with the in-form Van Gerwen having won three league nights and still having the best legs difference in the table and winning the most legs against the throw.

Michael Smith v Jonny Clayton

Michael Smith won his first even of 2022 with a Players Championship success on Tuesday in Wigan. Now he'll try and launch an ambitious bid to make a late run up the table, but has to face league leader and defending champion Jonny Clayton first in Sheffield.

Bully Boy Smith has only won seven matches in the Premier League this season and is the only player in the field yet to grab a weekly win. Clayton, by contrast, leads the way with four weekly victories and 20 matches won so far. The Welshman looks like a specialist in this format and will be tough to beat.
