Speaking exclusively to Eurosport-Yahoo!, Rodgers said the Uruguayan was among the best players he has managed, adding that Suarez deserves to be a candidate for the PFA Player of the Year award.

"He's one of the players I've worked with who has a real warrior spirit," said Rodgers.

"And I've loved his humility and his work, how he trains and his attitude; to practice and to improve.

"His sheer desire to be a winner is something that has stood out above his talents on the field - he's got a real determination and commitment to do well for Liverpool. And certainly that side of his game puts him up there with players that I've worked with."

The Anfield boss also praised Steven Gerrard's leadership qualities and paid tribute to the retiring Jamie Carragher.
