Argentine youngster Bruno Zuculini opened the scoring after just two minutes with a strike from distance. The 21-year-old was signed by City from Racing Club for £1.5m in February but only joined up with the club in July.

CJ Sapong levelled for Sporting on the half-hour mark but Dedryck Boyata headed home a Jesus Navas cross just before half-time.

City finally ran away in the latter stages with Aleksandar Kolarov scoring a penalty and on trial Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho then adding a fourth late on his debut.

Aston Villa were in Texas and enjoyed a 2-0 victory over FC Dallas with Andreas Weimann and Charles N'Zogbia scoring against the MLS outfit.

The returning Darren Bent was once again involved for Villa and he set up Weimann for the opener just before half-time.

Then three minutes after the break, N'Zogbia got the second with a wonderful free-kick.

Crystal Palace's first match in their tour of the US was an entertain 2-2 draw with the Columbus Crew.

Glenn Murray and Jake Gray got the goals for Tony Pulis side against a team coached by former Palace defender Gregg Berhalter.

Palace's goals came either side of Columbus' goals from Adam Bedell and Daniel Paladini.
