Manchester City are reportedly monitoring the Raheem Sterling situation as the teenager’s advisors lose patience with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers was quoted as saying that the young England international would be “very foolish” not to extend his Anfield deal beyond the 18 months Sterling has remaining on his current contract.

But despite the 17-year-old’s representatives staging two meetings with Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre, including one as recently as this week, it is understood that no formal offer has been put on the table as of yet.

Rodgers’ bullish attempts to compel his young star to commit to the club long-term may risk backfire if The Daily Mail’s suggestions that the manager has caused unrest in the Sterling camp are true.

Rodgers, who took over after leaving the Swansea post in the summer, recently had to tell Premier League champions City to back off from another of his star forwards, talismanic Uruguayan Luis Suarez.

The striker would back his gaffer up later in the day, issuing a statement which declared he is very happy at Liverpool.
