Ryan Bennett's late header gave Norwich City a 1-0 victory over Hull City in a dull Premier League encounter at Carrow Road.

The first half had almost no events of genuine merit, as Hull sat back, allowing Robert Snodgrass to send in overhit cross after overhit cross.

Hull’s best chance came in the second minute, when a Robert Koren pull-back was fired at the post by Nikica Jelavic in what should have been an easy chance. Norwich came closest when Snodgrass let fly from distance, but his swirling shot was beaten away by Allan McGregor.

In the second half, the quality managed to drop yet further. Norwich continued to send in crosses from the right with Russell Martin and Snodgrass, and Hull had no difficulty in repelling the attacks. Sitting so far back, Hull either could not or did not want to make any effort in attack.

Then, one thing happened. Ryan Bennett finally got to a Snodgrass corner, and sent his effort high into the net. Two minutes later, Tom Huddlestone saw red for a stupid second yellow. Norwich's new signing, Jonas Gutierrez, and Hull's, Jelavic, will be wondering if it is this bad every week.

2’ - JELAVIC HITS THE POST - Koren gets on the end of a Leroy Rosenior pass to pull the ball back for the new signing, but he fires his shot at the near post.

11’ - VAN WOLFSWINKEL CHANCE - The out-of-form striker hooks a shot wide from close range.

42’ - SNOGRASS SHOT - McGregor does well to palm away a long-range shot from the Norwich winger.

87’ - BENNETT GOAL - Bennett sends in a great header from a Bennett corner to win all three points at the death.

89’ - HUDDLESTONE RED - A daft late challenge on Leroy Fer in midfield sees Hull’s midfielder off marginally early than everyone else.

This was Norwich's third goal in their last six Premier League games.

Carrow Road has seen fewer goals than any other Premier League stadium this season (22)

Norwich City are one of only two teams yet to score a goal from an indirect free-kick this season (alongside Aston Villa).

Norwich are the only Premier League team yet to see a substitute score this season.

Was this the worst game of the season? Hardly any shots on target, no invention or ambition from Hull and no ability displayed by Norwich. It’s an important victory for Norwich but with no indication they are capable of playing well against other relegation candidates.

Ryan Bennett (Norwich City): In a match when no players did anything remarkable, it’s impossible to give the award to any other player than the match-winner.
