Southampton and Manchester City shared the points at St Mary’s Stadium in a 1-1 draw.

City opened the scoring after just ten minutes, when Aleksandar Kolarov’s low cross from the left was hooked into the goal by Sergio Aguero.

Southampton quickly came back into the game, and after a couple of near misses Dani Osvaldo curled an exquisite shot into the top corner.

There were few clear chances in the second half, with Southampton going closest when Osvaldo got to a rebounded Jay Rodriguez shot first, but fired well over. Kolarov’s shot into the side netting from an acute angle was City’s best chance of the half.

As the game drew to a close, Samir Nasri was lucky not to be sent off for a second yellow card offence after a cynical challenge on Calum Chambers.

Although Southampton were the better side overall, both teams can feel satisfied with a point.

Pre-match - Southampton struggle to make up the numbers as they start the match without eight first team players.

10’ - AGUERO GOAL - Aguero gives City the lead after turning in Kolarov’s cross from the left wing.

31’ - AGUERO MISS - The chance is missed to go two up as Aguero sends Pablo Zabaleta’s pullback way over the bar.

37’ - CHAMBERS CHANCE - Calum Chambers pops up at the back post to get to Luke Shaw’s cross, but he heads just wide.

42 - OSVALDO EQUALISES - Shifting the ball onto his right foot, Osvaldo curls the ball over the ‘keeper and into the goal to pull Southampton level

53’ - OSVALDO MISS - With the goal begging, Osvaldo follows up a Pantilimon save only to shoot well over.

89’ - NASRI LUCKY - With a cynical check on Chambers as he looked to break into space, Nasri is lucky not to be shown a second yellow card.

Manchester City have not won consecutive Premier League games since January.

Sergio Aguero has scored 11 goals in his last 10 Premier League games.

Manchester City have now scored 41 goals this season.

TALKING POINT: How can Manchester City improve their away form? Playing Martin Demichelis is an invitation to concede, and the sooner he is dropped from the first team, the more chance they will have of winning more away games.

Dejan Lovren (Southampton): Despite being injured in the second half, Lovren stayed on the pitch to make sure that Southampton’s defence stayed resolute to the end of the match. This commitment in the midst of an injury crisis may turn around Southampton’s recent slump in form.
