West Brom stretched their unbeaten run to five league matches after a 0-0 draw with Stoke City.
The Baggies started well and should have taken the lead when the impressive Stephane Sessegnon was through on goal but his shot was brilliantly saved by Asmir Begovic.
Begovic continued to foil the visitors with a fine save to deny Morgan Amalfitano who was set up unselfishly by Sessegnon. But the home side finished the half stronger with Stephen Ireland and Steven Nzonzi both going close.
The second half was a drab affair with the only incident of note coming when Youssouf Mulumbu was tripped by Adam in the box but his penalty appeals were waved away.
Stoke continued to enjoy the lion's share of the possession with Stephen Ireland blazing over from six yards out, while Charlie Adam’s effort from the halfway line was tipped over by Boaz Myhill.
Begovic produced a fine save to deny Sessegnon from five yards out in the last minute but neither side was able to break the deadlock which leaves them both in the bottom half of the table.
PRE-MATCH: Victor Anichebe was given the nod over veteran Nicolas Anelka.
17’ - SESSEGNON GOES CLOSE: The forward should have scored after collecting Berahino’s pass eight yards out but his low shot is blocked by Begovic.
24’ - BEGOVIC FOILS WBA: Sessegnon goes on a darting run before teeing-up Amalfitano whose chipped shot is well saved by the advancing Begovic.
56’ - PENALTY APPEAL: Mulumbu collapses in the box and pleads for a penalty but gets nothing. There looked to be contact from Adam, should have been a penalty.
63’ - IRELAND MISSES: Ireland blazes over with the goal at his mercy from six yards out with a poor first-time effort.
71’ - ADAM’S LOB: The midfielder fires in a 50-yard effort that is tipped over by a relieved Myhill.
85’ - MULUMBU GOES CLOSE: The midfielder curls a shot from the edge of the box inches wide.
90’ - WASTEFUL SESSEGNON: The West Brom star beats three players but his shot from close range is blocked by Begovic.
Stoke City have scored just four goals in their eight league games, their worst ever haul at this stage of a top-flight campaign.
TALKING POINT: Was it a spot-kick? Steve Clarke will feel his side should have had a penalty when Mulumbu was blatantly tripped by Adam in the box
