Chelsea and Norwich played out a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge that did neither side any favours in their respective ambitions.

The home side went into the match needing victory to boost their title hopes with Norwich needing the same to realistically avoid relegation.

Both sides had decent penalty claims turned down by referee Neil Swarbrick, Demba Ba seemingly checked in the box before Ashley Cole appeared to bring down Martin Olsson.

Chelsea looked the more likely to break the deadlock and dominated in terms of possession, while both Andre Schurrle and second-half substitute David Luiz were denied by the woodwork.

But the result means that Norwich need a miracle to avoid dropping into the second tier, whilst Chelsea are all but out of the title race.

5’ – BA CHECKED IN THE BOX: It looked innocuous at first but replays suggest Michael Turner may have been lucky as it looked a blatant body check to stop Ba’s run and possible penalty.

10’ – NORWICH DENIED PENALTY: Johnson feeds Olsson in the box and he nicks it away from Cole before the defender brings him crashing down. Looked a clear penalty.

31’ – SCHURRLE HITS THE POST: Matic feeds the German who forges into the box before planting his shot against the far post and it rebounds to safety.

47’ – LUIZ HITS THE BAR: The half-time substitute sees his effort cannon back of the underside of the bar from Ivanovic’s pass.

54’ – CHELSEA PENALTY CLAIM: Schurrle goes down under a challenge from Tettey but more clumsy than anything else.

57’ - CHELSEA PENALTY CLAIM: This time Hazard goes tumbling after Bennett’s challenge but again, Swarbrick is unmoved.

71’ – CHANCE FOR NORWICH: Redmond plays in Snodgrass but he takes too long and Cahill does well to cover across.

TALKING POINT: A tale of two penalties. Demba Ba felt aggrieved to have been checked in the box then it looked as if Ashley Cole had taken down Martin Olsson after he had touched the ball past him. But the man that mattered, referee Neil Swarbrick, was unmoved.

This season will definitely be Chelsea's worst points total under Mourinho - their maximum is 82 points, one fewer than his previous worst (83).

Chelsea fail to score in the first-half of a PL home match for only the sixth time this season.

Norwich’s winless streak of 10 PL away matches extends to 11, as they record only their second Premier League away point of 2014. It’s only the fourth occasion in which Chelsea have dropped points at Stamford Bridge in the PL this season – they have only managed fewer ocassions in one of their last seven Premier League seasons (2 points in 2009/10).

Martin Olsson makes his 150th appearance in English league football – it’s his 121st in the Premier League, during which time he has scored three goals, provided six assists, and played his part in 25 PL clean sheets.

Norwich haven't won a Premier League away match in London since 9 April 2012, when they beat Spurs 2-1. They have played 12 matches in the city since (D4-L8).

Michael Turner (Norwich City): A rock at the heart of the Norwich defence against a tidal wave of Chelsea attacks.
