The Daily Mirror reports that both Serie A side Lazio and Liga powerhouse Sevilla are keen on securing the Irishman’s signature.
West Brom also face a battle to keep Long from clubs closer to home as he has "also attracted attention from Tottenham, Newcastle United and Liverpool."
The paper explains: "Lazio were keen on Long before the transfer window closed last week and are keeping tabs on him along with Sevilla.
"Long will enter the final year of his contract at the end of the season but Albion have an option to extend it for a further 12 months.
"However, they are keen to secure his long-term future and are set to offer him a new four year deal."
One striker who is unlikely to be coming to the Premier League is Borussia Dortmund hitman Robert Lewandowski who looks set to join fierce rivals Bayern Munich.
The Daily Mail picks up on quotes from German legend Lothar Matthaus who told Sky Bundesliga: "I was on the road this week. I heard that Lewandowski has an agreement with Bayern. Only the date of the move remains undecided.
"Lewandowski’s contract runs out in 2014 and Dortmund will only get a fee in 2013 - surely a high fee. I heard it was something between £20m-£25m, otherwise he will go to Bayern for free next year.”"
The Pole has long been linked with Manchester United but it appears that move is now dead in the water.
Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen could miss their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich next week according to the Daily Mail.
The paper says that the Belgian has had an anti-inflammatory injection in the hope of avoiding ankle surgery and that it is his second ankle injection this season.
Chelsea could be about to splash out £3.4 million on a 17-year-old prospect from Chile. Cristian Cuevas is the starlet’s name – he is left winger who plays for the fantastically named ‘O’Higgins.’ Chelsea have offered £2.2m but O’Higgins are holding out for £3.4m. (Daily Mail)
Aston Villa central defender Richard Dunne has been told he could get a new contract - even though he has yet to play a game this season. Dunne, 33, has been sidelined since last summer’s European Championships by hip and groin problems and he has had three operations. (Daily Mirror)
Tottenham are set to fine Emmanuel Adebayor £160,000 for returning late from the African Nations Cup which equates to two weeks wages for the Togo striker. (The Sun)
And finally, Kris Commons says he is not bothered that Rangers have allowed Juventus to use their Murray Park training facilities ahead of the Champions League clash with Celtic. "If they want to prepare at a Division Three training ground, let them get on with it," he said. (Daily Record)
