Inter to swoop for Torres: According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea striker Fernando Torres could be set for a sensational summer switch to the Serie A, with Inter Milan keen on securing the Spaniard’s signature. It is reported that the Italian giants are prepared to pay Chelsea’s £20 million asking price and will cough up the cash in order to bring Torres to the San Siro. The 29-year-old, who joined the Blues from Liverpool in a sensational £50m move, has just over two years remaining on his current £150,000-a-week contract at Stamford Bridge, but, with Jose Mourinho keen on a big summer overhaul, he could be forced out of the London club.
Paper round’s view: Torres could well be on his way out of Stamford Bridge, but only if Jose Mourinho’s side recuperate a large proportion of the whopping fee they paid for the Spaniard as they must keep within UEFA’s Financial Fair Play restrictions. The Chelsea boss has been linked with summer moves for Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa, Monaco’s Radamel Falcao and former Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli, so would need to offload Torres before acquiring any of those big names.
United in for Griezmann: Reports in the Metro suggest that Manchester United are keen on bringing Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann to Old Trafford in the summer. The pacy French winger has been linked with a move to a number of Premier League clubs after a stellar campaign in Spain, but David Moyes is attempting to act first and make a move to seal a deal before the World Cup. United scout David Friio has confirmed that the Red Devils are certainly interested in signing the 22-year-old. He said: “Griezmann would clearly bring something. His versatility and technique, in a tournament where the gaps are reduced, are real assets. You can’t score 15 goals in a great league without having real qualities.”
Paper round’s view: Griezmann is certainly one of the hottest young talents in European football at present and looks almost certain to leave Sociedad in the summer. The Frenchman is level on goals with Lionel Messi in La Liga this term and has helped Sociedad reach sixth in the table, though a European place is not out of their hands. Capturing Griezmann’s signature would be a real coup for under-fire United boss Moyes, and would signal real intent for the Red Devils 2014/15 campaign. Their real man concern is that they almost certainly won’t be able to offer the 22-year-old Champions League football, which could be a deal-breaker.
Arsenal enquire about Montolivo: Arsenal have made contact with AC Milan about the availability of midfielder Ricardo Montolivo, according to the Daily Express. The 29-year-old has been Milan’s stand-out player in what has been a hugely forgettable season for the Serie A club, and has subsequently attracted a lot of attention from sides across Europe. According to the player’s agent Giovanni Branchini, three of Europe’s top sides have all made tentative enquiries about the Italian. "Has there been interest from other clubs? There have been tentative enquiries from Atletico Madrid, [Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen] Klopp and Arsenal, to name a few,” Branchini said. “All were trying to ascertain whether the 'path' to Montolivo was feasible.”
Paper round’s view: 18-times Serie A champions Milan have had a disastrous season and currently lie in tenth in the league, but Montolivo has been one of only a few bright sparks. In fact, he has impressed that much that he has been handed the captaincy. Montolivo is contracted with Milan until June 2016, and, according to his agent Branchini, is very happy at the San Siro, but with Milan looking unlikely to qualify for Europe, a move to the Emirates Stadium could be possible.
Liverpool look to lure Parejo back to England: According to the Daily Star, Liverpool are keeping tabs on Valencia midfielder Dani Parejo and could look to persuade the Spaniard into moving back to England in the summer. Parejo spent a year on loan with Queens Park Rangers in 2008, but, after a relatively unfruitful spell at Loftus Road, moved back to Spain. However, the 24-year-old has had a stunning season in the Valencia midfield and is firmly on the radar of Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers. The Northern Irishman sent chief scout Barry Hunter out to Spain to watch Parejo in Valencia’s 2-1 win over Granada in February.
Paper round’s view: Parejo has been one of just a few star players in a relatively poor Valencia side this season and is understandably attracting attention from a number of clubs. Rodgers is keen to add to his midfield, but, with Valencia boss Juan Antonio Pizzi reluctant to sell the 24-year-old, he could face a challenge in acquiring Parejo’s signature.
