Premier League prediction made by supercomputer - good news for Chelsea, bad for Arsenal & Spurs
A supercomputer has predicted the opening day of the Premier League season for all 20 clubs - and Chelsea are due some joy.
New data collated by BetVictor has shown that the Blues will be likely to start their season off with a victory against some tough competition in Manchester City. The analysis has suggested that Enzo Maresca's men could secure a win against City, based on their record on other matchday one fixtures from previous years.
Chelsea have won 20 of their 32 matches in the opening day, scoring an average of 2.13 points per game (PPG). They have only lost four times over the years, while the other eight fixtures ended in draws.
The London club's league opener last campaign ended in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool, with Luis Diaz striking first for the away side in the 18th minute. Chelsea centre-half Axel Disasi hit back just before half-time with a right-foot strike that levelled up the game for the Blues.
In terms of head-to-head statistics, no side has beaten Pep Guardiola's City on more occasions in the Premier League than Chelsea, who have won five times since the start of the 2016/17 season. However, this weekend will see the Blues aiming to prevent a fourth successive victory for Guardiola against them for the first time in their history.
Chelsea last beat City in the league in May 2021 at the Etihad Stadium, and their last home victory against the reigning champions was even further back - in June 2020 behind closed doors after Christian Pulisic and Willian secured the three points.
On the other hand, Arsenal aren't as fortunate as their city rivals with their matchday one record, averaging just 1.81 PPG over 32 games since 1992. Mikel Arteta's side have won 16, drawn 10 and lost six of their opening-day games in the Prem.
In the 2023/24 season, Arsenal started off their title challenge with a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium. Striker Eddie Nketiah hit first for the Gunners in the 26th minute, and Bukayo Saka followed up not long after with a shot from outside the box to make it 2-0 before half-time. Forest's Taiwo Awoniyi grabbed a consolation goal in the 82nd minute in a fast counter-attack.
Arsenal will take on Wolves at home on Saturday, with the game kicking off at 3pm. The Gunners' record against Wolves is pretty positive, with 14 wins from 20 games against the Wanderers.
Wolves' last win against Arsenal came in February 2021 when both Bernd Leno and David Luiz were sent off in a 2-1 win for the hosts. Nicolas Pepe struck first in the 32nd minute but a last-man foul from Luiz at the end of the first half meant that Ruben Neves levelled things up with a well-taken penalty.
Not long into the second half, Joao Moutinho eyed one up from outside the box to make it 2-1 to Wolves, which handed them their second consecutive victory over the London club.
Tottenham Hotspur are also potentially in for a bad opening day this campaign, averaging just 1.56 PPG over 32 games in the Premier League. Spurs have won just 13 of their matchday one fixtures, drawing 11 and losing eight in total.
Fans will have to wait as well, as Ange Postecoglou's side won't be kicking a ball until Monday night against the newly-promoted Leicester City. After longtime servant, Harry Kane left London for pastures new, supporters may not have been expecting much in their last opening day match - and had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Brentford on August 13.
The points were shared as Cristian Romero scored first for Spurs in the 11th minute before Bryan Mbeumo levelled things up for Brentford in the 27th minute with a penalty.
Yoane Wissa then made it 2-1 to the home side on the 36th minute, before Emerson Royal brought the game equal once again with a strike four minutes into added time at the end of the half.
Spurs fans may be hoping for the same excitement in Leicester this coming Monday - but they will also be expecting the three points to make their way back to London with the squad.
Both Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal will be looking to make a perfect start to the season this weekend against some tough opposition, as Arteta and Maresca aim to bring silverware back to London for their respective clubs.
