Sport report that the difficulty in signing Marquinhos from Paris Saint-Germain has led Barca to reconsider the Denmark international, as well as a number of other options.

Ajax’s Daley Blind and Tottenham Hotspur’s Jan Vertonghen are also on the shortlist but Agger is seen as the cheapest option.

His position at Anfield is likely to come under threat once the Reds sign Dejan Lovren from Southampton and with two years on his Liverpool deal, Agger is open to leaving.

It’s suggested he would cost €15m (£12m), while sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta sees Agger as a player who suits the profile of a Barca centre-back.

Agger has previously made public his unhappiness at losing his place in the Liverpool side, with Brendan Rodgers preferring to pair Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho, Sport note.

Barca’s only concerns regarding the 29-year-old are his injury record and his potentially high wages.

If Liverpool do indeed sign Dejan Lovren then Agger, who is already not first choice, would be even further surplus to requirements. For a 29-year-old with a suspect injury record, £12 million would be a great price for the Dane, so if Barcelona do firm up their interest in the form of a bid then expect Liverpool to do business.
