Liverpool’s £75m defender Virgil Van Dijk is the best in the Premier League, according to Watford skipper Troy Deeney.

Van Dijk still holds the record for being the most expensive defender ever and Deeney believes he is worth every penny.

The Watford skipper is entering his fourth season as a Premier League player and is known for being a nuisance to defenders, but it seems to be the other way round when it comes to Van Dijk.

“I always think Van Dijk is the best around. I said it this year; I said it last year,” Deeney told the BBC

“Because he is a nightmare for someone like me. He’s 6ft4in, I think, and I’m just about 6ft. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s fast. He can play.

“And he doesn’t mind, you know, getting physical as well, so if someone like me gets him it’s a nightmare

“I always think before that I’m going to have to be playing the best of my career if I’m to get even anything out of him.”
