Premier League Team of the Season: Who makes it into our writers' best 11 so far?

Dimitri Kondonis

As the Premier League draws towards its climax, there are already several near-certainties.

Chelsea will  probably win the title, Sunderland will  probably be plying their trade in the Championship next season.

The one thing that has pundits arguing though, is players of the season. All of which are entirely subjective, hence making for a great debate.

Sunderland players and Chelsea players both feature in our lists, so check out what Yahoo Sport’s writers make of the stars of the league so far this season.

Formation: 4-4-2

GK: David de Gea

RB: Victor Moses
CB: Toby Alderweireld
CB: Virgil Van Dijk
LB: Danny Rose

LM: Eden Hazard
CM: Dele Alli
CM: N’Golo Kante
RM: Alexis Sanchez

ST: Romelu Lukaku
ST: Harry Kane

The first name on the team-sheet was N’Golo Kante who has easily been the best player in the Premier League this season, closely followed by Eden Hazard as Chelsea and Spurs make up the bulk of this team.

Romelu Lukaku gets the nod up front ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic as David De Gea is the only Man United player worth of making this XI.

CB: Toby Alderweireld
LB: Cesar Azpilicueta

LM: Eden Hazard
CM: Adam Lallana
CM: N’Golo Kante
RM: Alexis Sanchez

ST: Zlatan Ibrahimovic
ST: Sadio Mane

If by some freak of nature Sunderland do stay up this season Pickford’s displays allied to Jermain Defoe’s goals will be the two reasons.

The young keeper has been immense for a team that have been swamped and is surely too good to languish in the Championship when he should be knocking at England’s door.

Many questioned if bringing back Luiz was the right move by Chelsea but he has been brilliant while Azpilicueta’s run of games and consistency pushes him ahead of the recently-injured Rose at left back but there is very little to choose between them.

With on-song Chelsea flier Hazard down one side and Arsenal hothead Sanchez down the other, there’s a pair to terrorise defences. They also grab vital goals. Chelsea’s Kante looks set to win a second Premier League title in successive years – with different clubs – and there is no better, fitter, hungrier and wiser player than the Frenchman.

He spoils everything the opposition try to do. And as for Lallana, he has been great for both Liverpool and England this campaign and has added goals to his creativity and an improved work ethic.

Although many pointed to Ibrahimovic being a waste of time signing given his age – 35 – his goals and all-round game show just how much he still has to offer Manchester United. Without him their attack looks toothless. He is still lethal in and around the goal.

Australia’s national football team has whipped out the 3-2-4-1 formation in recent World Cup qualifiers against Iraq and the UAE. It didn’t particularly work as intended for those purposes, but I’m going to use it here.

A fearsome defence, with Kante and Gueye providing extra cover should be sturdy enough to let the forward five do their thing. And what a lethal front five it is!
