Tottenham Hotspur's players celebrate their third goal during the English Premier League football match between Tottenham Hotspur and Queens Park Rangers

Forgotten man Erik Lamela starred for Tottenham, who moved top of the Premier League with a resounding 4-0 win over a poor Queens Park Rangers.

Nacer Chadli struck the opener, chesting down Emmanuel Adebayor's cross and lifting over the advancing Rob Green to score his first Premier League goal at White Hart Lane.

Green was picking the ball out of the net again when Eric Dier, who scored on his debut last week at West Ham, flicked in Lamela's corner at the near post to mark his home debut with a goal. Spurs were out of sight before half time when Chadli notched his second, heading in after a powerful run by Lamela.

QPR, who had Leroy Fer making his debut, improved after the break but missed some good openings, with former Spurs defender Steven Caulker guilty of two missed headed chances. Emmanuel Adebayor added the shine to an assured Spurs performance, latching onto Danny Rose's cross with a cool first-time finish.

It was a fine performance from £30m club record signing Lamela, who went missing last season following his move from Roma.

12' - GOAL! Tottenham 1-0 QPR - Chadli scores for Spurs! Bentaleb breaks and feeds Adebayor on the left, his cross picks out Chadli at the far post, and the Belgian takes the ball on his chest and delicately lifts it over the advancing Green.

19' - BIG MISS! Huge chance for Phillips, who cuts into a shooting position but scoops it over the bar. He had the goal at his mercy but couldn't hit the target - and beats the ground in frustration. Harry Redknapp can't believe it.

24' - OFF THE BAR! Eriksen smacks a free-kick from 30 yards against the underside of the bar! That shot had dip and swerve and had Green beaten, wonderful effort.

30' - GOAL! Tottenham 2-0 QPR - Dier makes it 2-0 to Spurs! The young defender ghosts into space at the near post to nod the corner past Green.

37' - GOAL! Tottenham 3-0 QPR - Chadli nods in from close range but this goal was all about Lamela, who beats two players and delivers the perfect cross for the Belgian.

65' - GOAL! Tottenham 4-0 QPR - Adebayor makes it 4-0! Another blistering counter-attack by Spurs, who break through Rose down the left. Rose's cross finds Adebayor, whose assured first-time finish beats Green for the fourth time.

90' - BIG MISS! Caulker heads wide from two yards. That sums up QPR's day.

Spurs won their fifth Premier League home match in a row, and their seventh PL home win in a row against promoted opposition.

QPR have lost their last five PL matches, and have not won a PL match since 9 March 2014, when they beat Sunderland 3-1 (11 matches).

Spurs also earned their fourth PL home win in a row against QPR, whose defeat means they lost their opening two English league matches of the season for the first time since 1995/96.

ottenham Hotspur's Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor (L) celebrates scoring their fourth goal with Tottenham Hotspur's …

Can Lamela finally justify the price tag? Lamela endured a nightmare debut season at Spurs, but is starting to look like the player signed from Roma for £30m. An excellent pre-season, a game-changing substitute appearance in midweek against Limassol and now his best performance yet in a Spurs shirt. Pochettino seems to be taking Lamela under his wing, and so far the signs are positive.

Erik Lamela (Tottenham): Two assists, the best of which was his run and cross for Nacer Chadli's second goal, was the least Lamela deserved. His year-long struggle with fitness and form seems to be over.

Tottenham: Lloris 7, Dier 8, Vertonghen 7, Kaboul 7, Rose 8, Capoue 7, Bentaleb 7, Eriksen 8, Chadli 8, Lamela 9, Adebayor 8. Subs: Dembele 7, Kane 7, Soldado 7.

QPR: Green 5, Dunne 5, Ferdinand 6, Caulker 5, Phillips 6, Isla 5, Barton 6, Fer 5, Traore 6, Mutch 5, Remy 6. Subs: Onuoha 6, Faurlin 6, Zamora 5.
