Sale Sharks have announced that full-back Simon Hammersley is parting ways with the Premiership outfit to pursue a career outside of rugby.

Formerly a Newcastle Falcons player, Hammersley is hanging up his boots after playing nine years at senior level between the two northern-based sides.

The 29-year-old England Saxon was a fan favourite for Sale Sharks after arriving from the recently relegated Falcons ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Huge contribution

On their website, the Premiership club said: “Everyone at Sale Sharks would like to thank Simon for his huge contribution to the club over the past three years and we wish him all the very best for the future.”

Meanwhile in Bristol, defence coach Omar Mouneimne has left the side after an all-round horrendous season for Pat Lam’s side.

Last year the Bears finished the Premiership regular-season in first place but currently sit 10th with the third-worst defence in the league making the loss of Mouneimne an easy one to take.

“Omar is a respected member of our coaching set-up. It’s now the right time for him to take on a new challenge and he departs with our best wishes,” chairman Chris Booy said.
