England and Gloucester wing Jonny May admits that it is a concern so many of his friends and colleagues will be without a club at the end of this season.

Following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, teams in England have had to make adjustments, with the reduction in salary cap one of those alterations.

It went from £6.4m to £5m last year, meaning that Premiership clubs have been working hard to cut their cloth accordingly.

The likes of Kyle Sinckler and Ellis Genge have already talked about the issue on social media and May added his voice to the England stars speaking out.

Very different to football

“Rugby is not football. I think people need to recognise that. It can be scary in rugby,” he told Sky Sports.

“Everybody in rugby is going to have to find a job after rugby because it’s not football and, like in every industry because of the pandemic, cuts have been made and unfortunately players are going to feel that.

“It’s certainly tough times for some boys.”

Fellow Red Rose player Harry Randall added: “It is slightly worrying, you never want to see any of your mates losing out on contracts and losing out on jobs.”
