London Irish have brought Italian international prop Danilo Fischetti into their squad from URC side Zebre Parma ahead of next season.

The 24-year-old has won international 20 caps since his debut in 2020, staying an international squad regular.

Welcome presence

The Exiles have been searching for extra forward options for a while and director of rugby Declan Kidney was very happy to get this one over the line.

“Danilo will be a welcome presence in our pack and will bring with him a wealth of international experience at only 24 years old,” he said.

“We are very much looking forward to working with him at Hazelwood this summer and he is a welcome addition to our squad.”

Fischetti professed himself excited to be given the opportunity to play in the Premiership and to help the team up the league.

“After speaking to Declan, I knew that the ambitions of the Club match that of my own,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to contributing as much as I can to drive the team up the league table.”

Meanwhile, Bath’s rebuilding process continues with the acquisition of two promising young players, flanker JJ Tonks and Welsh centre Louie Hennessey.

Tonks arrives from Northampton, where he made 23 appearances in both the Champions’ Cup and Premiership over the past two seasons.

A Gloucester academy graduate who also played at Hartpury College, Tonks won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games with England Sevens ahead of England U18s and U20s honours.

Promising young centre Hennessey comes from Cardiff with a growing reputation for his skill set in the centre and his try-scoring ability.

He also played a season at Hartpury in 2021 and featured for Wales U18s for the first time in this season’s U18 Six Nations Festival. He will play for Bath while also studying at Bath University, an option he said was a major drawcard.

“Bath provides me with the opportunity to work with an excellent group of players and to develop my game under the new coaching group. I was drawn by the opportunity to be the best player I can be,” he said.

“The link with rugby and the University is also perfect for me, as I continue to focus on my development both on and off the field.”
