Bristol and former England number eight Nathan Hughes has been sent out on loan to Hartpury in the Championship until the end of the season.

Hughes recently made a comeback in the Premiership against Exeter on New Year’s Day after a four-month break from starting duties on the basis of form. He was solid without shining, but was replaced after just 45 minutes.

Rumours have long abounded about a fallout between Hughes and the club and he is expected to leave Ashton Gate at the end of the current season. The emergence of the bright, young Fitz Harding has meant Bristol have not lacked talent at the base of the scrum.

Hartpury confirmed he has joined the club on loan, and Hughes has been training with the side ahead of this weekend’s game against London Scottish when he will start at number eight alongside clubmate Mitch Eadie.
