Premiership: Ollie Lawrence scoops top gong at end of season awards
England and Bath centre Ollie Lawrence has been named Premiership Player of the Year for the 2022/23 season at the Premiership Rugby’s awards dinner in central London.
Lawrence made the move to Bath following Worcester Warriors’ financial ruin, and his performances at his new club earned him a recall to the England squad for the 2023 Six Nations.

He scored a crucial try on the final day of the regular season to seal a 61-29 win over Saracens that secured Bath’s return to the Champions Cup via an eighth-placed finish, having ended last season at the bottom of the table.
He beat fellow nominees Owen Farrell, Jasper Wiese and Robert du Preez to win an award that experts of the game decided.
Meanwhile, London Irish flanker Tom Pearson claimed the Breakthrough Player of the Season award. The 23-year-old finished the regular season with the second-highest tackle count (235) and was also top three for turnovers won (21) as he helped the Exiles to their highest finish since 2008/09, claiming fifth place. Pearson’s teammate Paddy Jackson scored 205 points and claimed the Top Points Scorer award.
Harlequins flyer Cadan Murley picked up the Top Try Scorer prize after being narrowly beaten by Max Malins last season. He scored crossed the whitewash 15 times, beating Newcastle Falcons winger Mateo Carreras’ tally of 13. Carreras did not leave empty-handed as he claimed the Try of the Season prize for his solo score against Northampton Saints.
Saracens boss Mark McCall took the Director of Rugby of the Season award after guiding his team into the Premiership play-offs by finishing top of the table in the regular season. Saracens veteran Sean Maitland was named the Community Player of the Year for his work with Saracens’ disability programme.
Finally, the BT Sport Dream team features nine clubs.
Defending champions Leicester have three representatives in the pack: Julian Montoya, George Martin and Wiese.
Loosehead prop Val Rapava-Ruskin is the only Gloucester player represented, while Saracens tighthead Marco Riccioni completes the front-row. Martin is joined in the second-row by Northampton Saints lock David Ribbans.
