Prep track and field: Mount Pleasant Invitational

Mar. 29—MOUNT PLEASANT — For the first time this season, both the Ottumwa girls and boys track and field teams headed outside to compete together along with Fairfield at the Mount Pleasant Invitational.

Both the Bulldogs and Trojans had successful results during the meet. Returning state medalist Delilah Subsin picked up a win in the first outdoor meet of the season for the Ottumwa girls, edging Burlington freshman Kylee Hill by half-an-inch for the shot put title reaching 40 feet and 2.5 inches.

Subsin also placed second in her first discus competition of the season, reaching 110 feet finishing six feet and seven inches behind Mount Pleasant junior Savannah Slobodnik.

The Fairfield boys, meanwhile, posted another 1-2 finish from the combination of Eli Zillman and Ryan Giberson in the high jump. Zillman took first place, crossing the bar at a height of six feet and five inches, while Giberson finished second with a successful leap of 6-1.

Ottumwa junior Bryan Coulter secured a top-five throw for the Bulldog boys in the shot put, reaching 44-0.25. In the boys long jump, Fairfield junior Dylan Adam and Ottumwa senior Ashley Abongwa shared fifth place as both area athletes reached 19-0.5.

On the track, the Ottumwa boys placed third in the 4x400 relay producing a time of 3:43.42. The Bulldogs also placed fifth in the 4x800 relay in 8:57.41.

Gabe Tejada picked up a top-five finish for the Fairfield boys in the 800-meter run, placing fifth overall in 2:01.77. Spencer McCready also cracked the top five for the Trojans, finishing fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.55.

The Ottumwa girls cracked the top five on the track in the sprint medley relay, finishing fourth overall in 2:02.13. The Bulldogs also placed fourth in the 4x200 relay, producing a time of 1:54.83.

Maddy Martin led the Trojans on the track, placing third overall in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:17.08. Lilly Bergren finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.43 seconds.

Also placing fourth for the Fairfield girls was Carley Seeley in the 3,000-meter run, finishing fourth overall in 11:59.13. The Trojans also placed fifth in the girls shuttle hurdle relay in 1:21.71.
