Prince Philip latest: Duke of Edinburgh transferred to St Bartholomew’s hospital for treatment for infection and testing for heart condition

(AFP via Getty Images)The Duke of Edinburgh has been transferred to St Bartholomew's Hospital for treatment for an infection and testing and observation for a pre-existing heart condition, Buckingham Palace has said.
The Palace announced the news at lunchtime on Monday after an an ambulance was seen leaving the private hospital in London where Prince Philip spent the last nearly two weeks.
“The Duke of Edinburgh was today transferred from King Edward VII’s Hospital to St Bartholomew’s Hospital where doctors will continue to treat him for an infection, as well as undertake testing and observation for a pre-existing heart condition,” the Palace said.
“The Duke remains comfortable and is responding to treatment but is expected to remain in hospital until at least the end of the week.”
The patient at King Edward VII’s hospital in Marylebone was screened from press and broadcast cameras by umbrellas on Monday morning.
The Duke of Edinburgh, 99, was admitted to the hospital on February 16 after feeling unwell at Windsor Castle.
He has been receiving treatment for an infection which the Palace has said is not related to the coronavirus.
A marked police van blocked the side street at the hospital where the Duke has been treated for an infection.
Uniformed officers also stood along the street beside the hospital to keep traffic and passers by moving.
At a rear entrance umbrellas were used to shield the gap between the hospital and the NHS ambulance.
Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
Philip has spent 13 nights being treated for an infection - his longest stay in hospital. In June 2013, he spent 11 days in hospital after surgery on his abdomen.
The duke, who is three months away from his 100th birthday, was initially admitted for a few days as a precautionary measure after feeling unwell.
Last Tuesday, the Earl of Wessex said Philip was "a lot better" when it was announced the duke would spend several more days in hospital being treated for the infection.
Edward said his father was "looking forward to getting out" and the family were keeping their "fingers crossed".
