Prince William is among dozens of celebrities, activists and artists shortlisted for a British LGBT Award.

Prince William has been nominated for Straight Ally award after becoming the first member of the royal family to be photographed for the cover of a gay magazine.

The British LGBT Awards shortlist was revealed on Monday to celebrate community activists, public figures and straight allies who work to advance LGBT rights.

The Top 10 Media Moments include Black Mirror’s San Junipero episode, the Broadway Musical Hamilton delivering a message to US Vice President Mike Pence and Rylan and his husband presenting This Morning together on ITV.

The Top 10 LGBT+ Celebrity Rising Stars saw nominations for trans activist Munroe Bergdorf, Mhairi Black MP and ex-Olympic canoeist Matt Lister.

British LGBT Awards founder Sarah Garrett MBE said: “The 2017 NatWest British LGBT Awards shortlist features inspirational people who have and continue to use their platform to promote and enhance LGBT rights all over the world.

“All nominees are absolutely deserving of their place on the shortlist but it is now down to the public to choose their winners ahead of the ceremony which is set to be the biggest yet when it takes place in London on 12 May.”

Voting takes place online here and the results will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on May 12.
