Arsenal’s priority in the summer transfer window, Ivan Fresneda, will reportedly meet with his representatives to assess his options, with four big sides in for him.

The Gunners were the trail of a new right-back in January. Ben White has been a revelation since shifting from his natural centre-back position this season to accommodate for William Saliba in the centre.

Clearly, that shift has been a positive for Mikel Arteta’s side. White has played every single league game he’s been available for this term and also started all but one of those.

What’s more, the defence has been in good shape. Other than fifth-placed Newcastle United, Arsenal – along with Chelsea – have conceded the least goals in the league this season.

While that’s a positive, the lack of depth could be a concern for the Gunners. An injury to either White or one of the centre-backs – which would likely mean the Englishman would shift to the centre – would leave them light at the back.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is ready in reserve and can play in any position in the backline. However, beyond that, Arsenal have no other right-back options to call upon.

As such, Fresneda was tracked in the summer window. Given the 18-year-old has played just 10 senior games for Real Valladolid, he’d likely be utilised as a back-up option initially.

However, the Gunners’ January pursuit reaped no rewards, with Fresneda preferring to stay in Spain.

Fresneda planning vital talks on future

It’s been suggested he was “reluctant to move” and didn’t want to “rush into” anything when he could have more time to prepare in the summer.

And the summer move might be one that comes to fruition. The Spaniard is still Arsenal’s “priority” and has also been linked with some other sides.

That a move might be coming soon has prompted some important conversations involving Fresneda.

Indeed, the Evening Standard reports the right-back ‘will sit down with representatives at the end of the season and assess his options ahead of a potential move’.

That report names Arsenal as one club who will ‘continue to monitor him’. Alongside the Premier League leaders are Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle.

Arsenal a good home for Fresneda

A move to the Emirates could be a good choice for the right-back. That he’s already being courted by such a big side at 18 shows the quality they believe he has.

And with White easily able to move back into the centre, he could be the choice to take the position in the future. Furthermore, it’s stated he looks to be ‘one of the most promising players in Europe’.

As such, moving to the potential Premier League champions would validate that status.

Indeed, it certainly seems a smarter option than Juventus, amid their off-field troubles. At Dortmund, the youngster would be playing for a club who are more often than not going to be second to Bayern Munich.

And despite Kieran Trippier being past the age of 30, displacing the club captain at Newcastle seems a tough task. Indeed, the result of Fresneda’s talks this summer could mean he’ll don an Arsenal shirt in the next campaign.
