PSV 2-0 Arsenal LIVE! De Jong goal - Europa League result, match stream and latest updates today

PSV vs Arsenal - LIVE!

The Gunners need just a point in Eindhoven to confirm top spot in Group A and confirm their spot in the Europa League knockout stage, avoiding a two-legged playoff with a Champions League drop out in the process. These two teams faced off a week ago, with Arsenal edging out a 1-0 win at the Emirates.

PSV very much have qualification in their own hands, but head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy will know anything less than a win tonight will open the door for Bodo/Glimt to take their place in the knockout stages in early 2023. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is aware of their threat and is expected to name a strong lineup in Holland to get the job done.

PSV Eindhoven 2 - 0 Arsenal FC

19:35 , Alex Young

92min: They’ve done it!

A huge win!

19:25 , Alex Young

83min: Arsenal players still slipping on this pitch. I don’t think you can point too much of the blame to it, but you can’t say it’s not played a part.

19:20 , Alex Young

78min: A remarkable last-ditch tackle from Branthwaite denied what looked a certain goal for Arsenal.

19:13 , Alex Young

"Arsenal are so ragged here, getting cut open at will. Ramsdale makes another good save and throws his hands up to the defence in frustration."

19:12 , Alex Young

72min: A stunning, stunning save from Ramsdale to push De Jong’s header away from close range.

Cue another offside flag, but still.

19:09 , Alex Young

69min: PSV have the ball in the back of the net for a FIFTH time, but for the third time the offside flag stops any celebrations.

Gakpo denied once again.

19:08 , Alex Young

66min: Jesus on for Holding. Arteta going all out.

19:05 , Alex Young

64min: De Jong is off the bench and onto the scoresheet.

Ramsdale comes for the corner, gets nowhere near the ball and De Jong nods home.

18:59 , Alex Young

57min: Arteta immediately brings on Partey and Saka. Lokonga and Odegaard make way.

18:58 , Alex Young

56min: What a finish from Veerman! A rocket past Ramsdale to give the hosts the lead.

Arsenal defence all over the place.

18:52 , Alex Young

49min: A fast start to the second half first sees Martinelli go close with a curling effort from the edge of the area before, up the other end, Simons is denied by a fine Ramsdale save.

Bodes well.

Second half

18:48 , Alex Young

46min: Back underway in Eindhoven.

18:34 , Alex Young

PSV have had the ball in the back of the net twice, but twice denied by the offside flag.

Arsenal need to wake up.

18:31 , Alex Young

47min: That’s your lot.

18:31 , Alex Young

46min: Odegaard stings Benitez’s palms just before the break.

18:30 , Alex Young

45min: Simons has been PSV's biggest threat all game, and thinks he has opened the scoring, jinking through the Arsenal penalty area, but his joy is soon ended by VAR and the offside flag.

Simon Collings in Eindhoven

18:26 , Alex Young

"Does feel like the pitch is an issue here. A few players mis-controlling it. Vieira the latest to do so and he points at the turf after in frustration."

18:25 , Alex Young

39min: Arsenal bossing things at the moment but clear-cut chances still at a premium.

Martinelli does find space in the area but his volley is high and wide.

18:17 , Alex Young

31min: Max again goes for the overlap down the left flank but again Sangare can’t quite pick out the lung-busting run.

Twice he’s been inches away.

18:15 , Alex Young

“Arsenal are controlling this game possession-wise, but they’ve not really opened up PSV yet. The hosts look solid at the back and Simons and Gakpo on the break can cause problems.”

18:10 , Alex Young

25min: PSV supporters break into applause in the 25th minute to remember a 25-year-old fan who yesterday died in a car accident.

Fireworks are also set off.

18:09 , Alex Young

24min: Another corner, straight into Benitez’s hands.

18:07 , Alex Young

22min: A second corner for Arsenal, but again PSV deal with it easily.

Arsenal yet to properly test their hosts.

18:04 , Alex Young

19min: Gakpo has the ball in the back of the net, chipping Ramsdale with ease, but he was a good yard offside.

That finish was a beaut. A warning for Arsenal.

18:03 , Alex Young

18min: Arsenal win their first corner, but Benitez easy punches the ball clear, which falls to Simons who nutmegs Lokonga but can’t get much further up the field.

18:02 , Alex Young

15min: Arsenal seeing far more of the ball now, starting to string a few passes together. Nketiah and Vieira look to link up but PSV hack the ball clear on the edge of the area.

Simon Collings in Eindhoven

17:56 , Alex Young

“Tierney’s position when Arsenal attack is interesting here. He is almost the furthest player forward, playing right alongside striker Eddie Nketiah.”

17:54 , Alex Young

9min: First shot on target and it goes to the hosts as Simons tries his luck with a low drive across goal which Ramsdale pushes behind.

17:53 , Alex Young

6min: All a little bit frantic at the moment. Arsenal can’t really get their foot on the ball and PSV are just very hyper.

17:51 , Alex Young

3min: A couple of half-chances for PSV, who have started the brighter. Gakpo, as expected, heavily involved.

17:47 , Alex Young

1min: Here we go!

Simon Collings in Eindhoven

17:46 , Alex Young

“A lively atmosphere here in Eindhoven. PSV fans behind the goal, dressed in black shirts are making a loud din. Arsenal fans up in the gods adding to it.”

The teams are out. We are minutes away.

17:37 , Alex Young

Almost time in Eindhoven.

17:22 , Alex Young

This Arsenal team is littered with standout performers this season, though perhaps none better than Granit Xhaka.

Tonight marks exactly three years since he was booed off by Arsenal fans and responded in, er, a similar fashion.

What a turnaround for him. Deserves it.

Here’s Arteta

17:08 , Alex Young

"Last week we made the first step which was to qualify for the next round. We need to win [on Thursday] because we want to finish first.”

"This competition is getting harder and harder. It looks like the next round is going to be extremely competitive.

"That's why finishing first in the group and avoiding another two games is such an important thing for us."

...and the hosts!

Arsenal XI

16:36 , Alex Young

Mikel Arteta isn’t messing around.

Score prediction

16:21 , Alex Young

It should be an entertaining clash, with PSV having to throw everything at Arsenal, and in front of their home support they should produce a more ambitious display than they did at the Emirates.

With the Gunners not at their free-flowing best in recent matches and signs of fatigue starting to appear, the visitors may settle for the point they need.

Draw, 1-1.

Madueke pushing to start

16:05 , Alex Young

Noni Madueke is in contention to start, with his appearance off the bench in north London his first appearance of the season after battling a serious injury.

Luuk de Jong was also brought on and will hope for a more significant role, while highly-rated Cody Gakpo, who has been linked with Arsenal, will need to deliver for PSV if they are to get the three points they require.

Arteta to name strong team

15:46 , Alex Young

Arteta is likely to name a strong side as he looks to turn next week’s match at home to Zurich into a dead-rubber, particularly with it coming just a few days before a trip to Stamford Bridge.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Emile Smith Rowe and Mohamed Elneny remain long-term absentees while Marquinhos has been ruled out through illness.

Eddie Nketiah, Matt Turner and Albert Sambi Lokonga should start again, with Arteta also set to once again call on the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Granit Xhaka.
