Christian Pulisic has denied that Raheem Sterling’s arrival at Chelsea will have “crazy” ramifications for his future at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have brought the senior England international in as they try again to close the Premier League gap to Liverpool and Manchester City. They hoped Romelu Lukaku’s club-record signing last summer would do the trick, but he has since left again.

As a result, Sterling has become one of the headline-grabbers of this summer’s window. Not only did he help Manchester City to four Premier League titles, he is now looking to close the gap to his former club.

And that could mean changes to how Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel uses his attacking options. Indeed, as well as Sterling and Pulisic, Kai Havertz, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Timo Werner and the exit-linked Hakim Ziyech are all fighting for game time up top.

According to USA international Pulisic, though, Sterling’s arrival will not cause a significant shift in the pecking order.

“That’s just life at a big club,” Pulisic told ESPN of the new £47.5million arrival.

“We have great quality and Raheem we’re really excited about it. The beautiful thing about being at a club like this is the competition every single day.

“We all thrive competing with each other in training. It’s just another great addition to the team and it doesn’t change a whole lot.

“I’m still going to have to play hard and enter my position just like I did before. Nothing crazy. This is Chelsea.

“This is what this is, what you sign up for and this is the kind of club it is with the caliber of players that we have.”

Pulisic reveals Leeds soft spot

Pulisic is looking to enjoy significant game time ahead of the World Cup – and he is therefore monitoring his fellow countrymen across the Premier League.

Jesse Marsch is embarking on his first full season in charge at Leeds United. He has brought in Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams to beef up his midfield after Kalvin Phillips’ move to Manchester City.

Pulisic said: “I’m just really proud to see Americans doing what they’re doing in the Premier League now.

“A ton of guys going across to Europe and now a big-time manager [is in] a big job in Leeds and I think just having them stay up last season was a good accomplishment and I was really happy to see it.

“And now with Brenden, with Tyler, I think if they put on a good season it does wonders for us as a country.”

The USA face England, Wales and Iran with Pulisic insisting his country are “confident and hungry” and will “not back down from anyone”.

Big season ahead for Chelsea star

The 2022/23 campaign will likely be the one that makes or breaks Pulisic’s Chelsea career.

He joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 having lit up the Bundesliga. But while he has had his moments, the forward has struggled to consistently maintain those peaks at Stamford Bridge.

At the end of the upcoming season, Pulisic will have only one year left on his deal and Chelsea will have a decision to make on his future.

If he does not perform well and struggles, both club and player may look to part ways. Although, Chelsea may not recoup their full £58million investment.

However, if Pulisic comes to the fore, he could well earn a new deal. The first three months of the season will prove a great deal, as Pulisic looks to get in top shape ahead of Qatar.
