Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara admits he would be ‘gutted’ if north London rivals Arsenal beat his old club to the signing of striker Gabriel Jesus.

The Gunners are chasing a striker signing after allowing both Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette to leave on free transfers over the last six months.

Arsenal have tied talented forward Eddie Nketiah down to a new deal. However, there is the need to bring in a more experienced frontman and Manchester City’s Jesus fits the bill.

The likes of Alvaro Morata, Gianluca Scamacca and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all been linked with an Emirates switch. But it’s a deal for Jesus that appears the most likely for Mikel Arteta’s men.

The 25-year-old Brazil international is us for grabs this summer after City made a double striker signing.

Pep Guardiola has added prolific Dortmund forward Erling Haaland and Argentine Julian Alvarez to his squad for next season.

That leaves Jesus out in the cold, and Arsenal are looking to take advantage with a £50million deal.

The Daily Star reports that while Tottenham are also keen on the player, Jesus prefers a move to the red half of north London.

The Star claims that Jesus feels he will struggle for game time under Antonio Conte. That will not the case, however, if he joins the Gunners.

Jesus tipped to take Arsenal to new level

And O’Hara thinks Arsenal will get a real steal if they can complete a deal.

He told Sky Sports: “If Arsenal get him I would be absolutely gutted. Because that is a player that would 100 per cent take them to a new level.

“Their strikeforce hasn’t been good enough recently and Jesus would be a huge signing for them. Hopefully it falls flat on its face and it doesn’t get done.”

Everton striker Richarlison has also been on Tottenham’s radar. However, it does seem unlikely that Daniel Levy will splash out upwards of £40m on a backup for Harry Kane.
