Newcastle United could announce one more major signing before the transfer window closes, according to former Sheffield United and Leeds goalkeeper Paddy Kenny.

The big-spending St James’ Park outfit announced their latest addition on Friday after completing the club-record £58million signing of Sweden striker Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad.

The 22-year-old’s fee could eventually rise to £60m and smashes the previous record of £39.6m for Joelinton.

But despite Isak’s signing, Newcastle continue to be linked with more arrivals before September 1.

One of those linked is Rennes attacker Martin Terrier, with a £25m offer already on the table.

Eddie Howe is looking to bolster his forward line after Calum Wilson suffered a hamstring injury against Manchester City.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash with Wolves, Howe confirmed the injury news. He said: “We’re hopeful that Callum will only be out for a couple of weeks.”

But despite that positive diagnosis on the club’s leading marksman, Kenny still expects another Newcastle signing.

He told Football Insider: “Well, we know they have the money to go out and get a couple more players before the window closes if they need them.

“After that game against City last weekend, there are two things you can do. You can say ‘we have a good enough squad to compete with City, or you can say ‘why don’t we made some singings and get even better?’.

Busy end to window for Newcastle

“That is what Newcastle have to decide right now. But I expect it will be a busy end to the transfer window for them.

“I think they will be focusing on getting players. But maybe we will see another player come in to boost their options.”

The addition of Isak is an impressive one, given that the forward has been viewed as one of the top young attacker’s in European football for some time.

However, he only scored six LaLiga goals in 32 appearances for Sociedad last season.

The Swede could make his debut against Wolves, although Chris Wood is more likely to start ahead of him.

The New Zealand international was on target in the midweek Carabao Cup win at Tranmere.
