Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Chelsea manager Graham Potter should be ‘sacked’ after the club’s defeat to bottom-of-the-table Southampton.

The Blues were defeated 1-0 at Staford Bridge, against a side without a manager, who have won just five games this season.

The Chelsea supporters booed their team off the pitch both at half-time and full-time, with the London club now without a Premier League win in their last four matches.

As a result, pressure is mounting on Potter and talkSPORT pundits Agbonlahor and Jamie O’Hara we’re not happy with the manager’s post-match interview following the loss on Saturday.

Speaking to Alex Crook, Potter said: “You have to see it for what it is, in terms of today, we had to make some changes because of the Champions League and because of the situation that we’re in – boys coming back from injuries.

“So when you make those changes, it can be difficult against a team that is well prepared.

“That’s not to say that we’re happy with a defeat, because we’re not at all, but we have to keep working.”

On the boos from the Chelsea fans, Potter added: “Well I can completely understand, the result isn’t what people want here, or expect here or demand here.

“And that’s fair enough, our job is to keep working and to turn it around.”

Agbonlahor: ‘Potter should be sacked’

The interview left both O’Hara and Agbonlahor baffled, as the former Aston Villa striker remarked: “This man, Graham Potter, is he winding me up talking about ‘It is what it is’ and ‘we’ve had to make a few changes?’

“This is Chelsea Football Club. Have you seen their line-up today? It’s an unreal team.

“He should be sacked for that post-match interview. ‘We’ve had to make some changes because of the Champions League, we had to bring some different players in against a settled and organised side.’

“What are you talking about? They haven’t got a manager! You’re playing against a team that are in disarray that can’t get back-to-back wins together, and you’re complaining about what?

“You had to bring [Mykhailo] Mudryk off the bench on. You had to start [Joao] Felix, are you joking me?”

Then, O’Hara added: “[Cesar] Apilicueta, [Kalidou] Koulibaly, [Ben] Chilwell, [Mateo] Kovacic, [Enzo] Fernandez, Joao Felix, Mason Mount, [David Datro] Fofana… I mean is he joking? Poor Graham.

“Unbelievable. And do you know what? If this was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, there would be riots right now in terms of how bad this team is.”

Indeed, Todd Boehly has spent a ridiculous amount of money on improving the Chelsea squad this season, splashing huge amounts on the likes of Fernandez and Mudryk.

Despite this, as revealed by TEAMtalk, it seems the Chelsea hierarchy have no intention of relieving Potter of his duties, at least for now.

However, the reality is, if he keeps losing to teams in the relegation zone, his days at Stamford Bridge will be numbered.
