Quintana takes lead after stage win

Colombia’s Nairo Quintana picked up his second stage win in a week, triumphing in the Pyrenees on stage three of the Route du Sud to take the overall lead.

The Movistar rider, who also won a stage in the Alps during the Criterium du Dauphine, fashioned a solo breakaway on the final climb of Spandelles to secure victory.

He now leads Hubert Dupont by 53 seconds heading into Sunday’s final stage.

Quintana led the peloton as they swept up the day’s early break on Col du Tourmalet before he staged a break of his own, alongside team-mate Sergio Pardilla, Kenny Elissonde, Anthony Charteau, Thomas Voeckler and Dupont.

But the Colombian pulled away on his own on the steepest section of the final climb before extending his lead on the steep descent and taking victory in Arras-En-Lavedan with over a minute to spare.
