Rabbi Matondo Rangers injury update as winger withdraws from Wales squad
Rabbi Matondo has been forced to pull out of the Wales squad with the injury he picked up for Rangers against Celtic.
The winger was included in his nation's set-up for meetings with Turkey and Montenegro in the Nations League after a strong start to the season while enjoying a run in the Gers team. He kept his place in the starting XI for the derby clash at the weekend but had to come off during the first half.
He has now withdrawn from the Wales squad. They said on social media: "Rabbi Matondo has withdrawn from the squad due to injury. Brysia wella (Get well soon) Rabbi!" Matondo won his 12th cap earlier this year in a friendly against Gibraltar after two years since his previous international appearance.
The injury picked up against Celtic was a hamstring problem and that could keep him sidelined for some weeks. It comes at a bad time for the 23-year-old who had been showing the best form of his Gers career and scored two and assisted two against Ross County the weekend before.
He had spent the summer being linked with moves away after largely being a fringe man for most of his time at the club. Blackburn Rovers were strongly linked at the end of the window and manager John Eustace was quoted on their interest, but in the end it was only Todd Cantwell they signed from Ibrox.
