Racing take early Top 14 lead

Racing Metro moved top of the early Top 14 standings with a crushing 47-23 win over Perpignan at the Stade Yves du Manoir.

Two first-half tries from Henry Chavancy helped Racing go into a 23-9 lead at half-time and a Jonathan Wisniewski try soon after the restart pushed them further ahead.

Virimi Vakatawa then went over to put Racing out of sight and though Rudi Coetzee and Gavin Hume got tries back for the visitors, Thomas Bianchin padded the lead and earned Racing a bonus point with a try five minutes from time.

Racing are now a point clear of Clermont who earned a surprising 17-0 victory over Toulon.

In another upset Castres bounced back from last week's thrashing to Perpignan to outclass Stade Francis 35-10.

Montpellier's poor start to the season continued as they fell 28-12 at home to Bree, as they struggled to cope without their 11 World Cup players.

A late penalty from Valentin Courrent earned Agen a 9-9 draw at Biarritz while Bordeaux Begles got their first win of the season thanks to a 18-6 success over Bayonne.
