Raheem Sterling has verbally agreed a new five-year deal with Manchester City, which could be worth £300,000 per week, making him the highest paid English player in the world.

The 23-year-old’s future has been the subject of growing speculation with his current contract due to expire in 2020.

Both club and player have been in talks for over 12 months but a conclusion is now in sight after both parties reached an agreement over the basic wage and the exact structure of the bonuses which will significantly boost his earnings.

Sterling’s improved wages will see him become one of City’s top earners on up to £300,000-per-week, and the best paid English footballer.

It represents a considerable hike on his existing £180,000 deal in a move that represents a major coup for Pep Guardiola.

The England winger has never said he wanted to leave City and now that both parties have agreed on a deal, Sterling looks to have committed his long-term future to Guardiola.

Sterling joined City from Liverpool in 2015 in a deal worth up to £49m and has since scored 48 goals in 151 appearances for the club.

The 23-year-old enjoyed the most prolific campaign of his career last season, scoring 23 goals in all competitions as City won the Premier League title with a record 100 points.
