Raheem Sterling to Arsenal transfer verdict as Chelsea look for Jadon Sancho solution
Arsenal are unlikely to sign Raheem Sterling from Chelsea on transfer deadline day, football.london understands.
It has been clear that the primary target for this position has been Nico Williams. The Spain international, however, has favoured staying with Athletic Club for at least another season and it could come down to Arsenal and Barcelona in 2025 battling it out to convince the winger where to move as the Spanish contingent in North London is on the rise with Mikel Merino having arrived this summer.
Arteta has of course worked with Sterling before and with his future up in the air he was asked prior to the win over Aston Villa about the CHelsea forward. What he said was very open and far more in-depth than the Spaniard tends to be publicly about any player not on Arsenal’s books.
“My time with him was exceptional,” he said. “I think we built a really strong relationship together.
“He was unbelievable at the time we worked together and he taught me a lot as well about individuals and how players think, how we give them support and help them. He’s someone that I really have strong feelings about.”

In short, Sterling’s arrival would have been viewed by many as far better for Arsenal as opposed to not adding a forward during this window. There were plenty of vague noises around how a deal might have happened with some suggestions over a loan move on reduced wages, others claiming Chelsea would expect a fee and the potential that he could agree on the termination of his deal in West London which is thought to be worth more than £300,000 per week.
However, as reported above, any move to Arsenal is increasingly unlikely. Manchester United and Chelsea are in talks over potentially seeing Jadon Sancho move to the Blues which could of course open a line for Sterling to move in the other direction - time will tell.
