Vinne Jones has slammed Raheem Sterling and claimed he would be playing for a club like Exeter City if he did not have pace.

Jones, who made just nine international appearances for Wales, believes Sterling relies to heavily on his speed and slammed his finishing so far this World Cup.

He did miss a glorious chance to put England 2-0 up against Sweden, but his all round performance was widely-praised and Gareth Southgate has stuck by his man.

Jones, though, is not convinced. “I know there’s been a lot of criticism for Sterling,” he told talkSPORT.

“He is getting in all the right positions, but sometimes you look at Sterling and you think, if he didn’t have that pace he’d be playing for Exeter or someone.

“It’s a bit of a worry. For me, Vardy would have scored. He would have knocked that one in over the top, he’s got a great touch. I’m a big Vardy fan, I think he would have scored a couple against Sweden.”
