Motorsport: Rain postpones NASCAR Cup race at Bristol

NASCAR fans in Bristol will need to wait another 24 hours to see this year's Cup Series race after rain forced a postponement on Sunday.

The NASCAR Cup Series Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway has been rescheduled for Monday due to persistent rain.

Weather has been a factor all week at Bristol. Qualifying for the Cup race was cancelled on Friday, while Saturday's XFINITY Series Fitzgerald Glider Kits 300 was delayed by rain for over an hour.

On Sunday, it was announced that the Food City 500 would be put back a day, with the race now set to begin at 1pm ET on Monday.

With further rain forecast, there will be a competition caution at lap 60 to give teams a chance to tweak their set-ups.

This is the first Cup Series race impacted by weather this year. In 2016, two races - both at Pocono - were delayed until Monday.

Last August’s race at Bristol was also was delayed a day, from Saturday night to a Sunday afternoon green flag.
