Warwickshire's game with Nottinghamshire was abandoned for the day with the Bears on 298 for five and Somerset will eventually resume on 42 for two in reply to Sussex's 317.
In Division Two, leaders Derbyshire were forced to sweat on a position of 28 for three after bowling Essex out for 245, while Yorkshire were 61 for two at stumps yesterday in response to Gloucestershire's 215.
Kent's Brendan Nash and Northamptonshire's Niall O'Brien were waiting to build on unbeaten centuries against Leicestershire and Glamorgan respectively.
