Former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt has opined that possible PCB chairman candidate Ramiz Raja is well aware of what the country’s system lacks and has already suggested a few changes that can improve the situation. Current chairman Ehsan Mani’s tenure will end on August 25, and several rumors have claimed that Ramiz is the frontrunner for the job.
Many former players have backed Ramiz to deliver the goods for Pakistan cricket. Salman Butt is one of them, and he feels that Ramiz finally gets a chance to be at the helm having followed the cricket in the country so closely. He also pointed out that the sport will benefit from the appointment of the 59-year-old.
“With a cricketer-chairman, you obviously expect cricket in the country to benefit. If Ramiz Raja is appointed as PCB chairman, let’s see what changes he brings. He has been very vocal about his views on Pakistan cricket as an expert on his YouTube channel and also as a commentator. He has a first-hand chance to be in charge of what he wanted.”
“Ramiz Raja is aware of what is lacking in Pakistan cricket and has offered quite a few suggestions on what can be done to improve the situation. There can be no better opportunity than becoming the PCB chairman to implement the changes he feels should be made. He has a great chance to put things on the right track,” Butt asserted.
“Hopes are raised of having a better cricketing structure in place” – Salman Butt on rumors of Ramiz Raja’s chances
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan wants a change in personnel as he believes a former cricketer can have a much more impactful role in the development of the sport as compared to others. Ramiz has a lot of experience not just as a player, but also as a commentator.
This should definitely work in his favor, as per Salman Butt. Everyone hopes for a good cricketing structure right from the domestic level onwards and Butt is no different. He has already expressed that his wish of seeing a strong domestic structure will soon be established if Ramiz gets the chairman’s job.
“Ramiz Raja keeps traveling the world as a commentator. He must have observed what other nations are doing with their cricket. A broadcaster doesn’t cover only the match on the ground.”
“What he does and how he implements his learnings if he gets the post of PCB chairman remains to be seen. But definitely, when a cricketer-chairman comes in, hopes are raised of having a better cricketing structure in place,” Butt added.
Ramiz Raja is reportedly going to meet with PM Imran Khan on August 23. The meeting will also include Ehsan Mani.
