Rangers badly missed Ryan Kent in Union Saint-Gilloise defeat, insists Aiden McGeady

HIBERNIAN winger Aiden McGeady insists that 'static' Rangers were missing Ryan Kent in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier against Union Saint-Gilloise.

The Premiership side were defeated 2-0 in Belgium ahead of the return leg at Ibrox next week as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men struggled to create goal scoring opportunities.

Kent missed the European clash due to a niggle but is expected to return to the squad for the return fixture in Govan and McGeady believes that Rangers were badly missing some of the incision that the English winger provides in the final third.

"I think Kent's a top player," he told Go Radio. "In terms of his numbers, goals and assists, I think it's definitely something he can improve on but in that Rangers team he is a top player.

"There wasn't much movement. Very, very static. The striker [Antonio Colak] was very isolated, I thought, playing in front of the team.

"And I thought without Kent or a kind of individual who is going to take someone on and take someone out of the game ,there wasn't much happening.

"Union Saint-Gilloise - they were very very comfortable and I actually felt it could've been more than that. It could've been three, four or five which is not good reading for Rangers.

"On the flip-side of it, if you come back to Ibrox and you've got the crowd behind you, you've played Champions League nights with Celtic and Rangers and anything can happen on those nights."
