The pressure of having to win every week at Rangers is helping Ben Davies deal with being at League One favourites Birmingham City.

The central defender joined the big-spending Blues on a loan deal for this season after the signings of Robin Propper and Neraysho Kasanwirjo pushed him further down the Ibrox pecking order. He went in search of more first team football but has had to be patient so far with Krystian Bielik and Christoph Klarer forming a partnership in the heart of defence.

However, with Bielik suspended for the match against Rotherham at the weekend, Davies came in and helped the promotion chasers to a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory. He will hope to keep his place but there is no guarantee with Bielik coming back into contention. But the former Liverpool and Preston man says being at Rangers is standing him in good stead.

He said: "Going up to Rangers has helped me deal with that expectation and pressure of winning every game. It’s made me more comfortable with that situation. I’ve had good life experiences, plenty of football clubs and plenty of loans. I'm quite an experienced player now and I feel like I can implement that into the team.”

Davies added: "It took a suspension for me to get my chance and I knew I needed a good performance to stake my claim, and I’m happy with how me and the team did.

“The standard in training is excellent,” he added. “The lads have been doing really well. Obviously I want to play every game but it takes time to get up to the standard and intensity the manager wants to work at.

“We’re a close squad and I feel like everyone wants each other to do well, whether you’re playing or not, because you know that next week you could be in the team.”
