An SFA VAR panel has found that Cyriel Dessers should have been awarded a second penalty against Dundee last week.

The Ibrox outfit welcomed the Dees to their home for the first time this season in the Premier Sports Cup and made short work of their opponents with a 3-0 win to make the semi-finals. One of the goals was scored by James Tavernier from the penalty spot but the panel reckons Dessers was fouled another time inside the area in an incident which was not given as a spot-kick but should have been.

The panel, made up of five judges, voted in 3-2 favour that the call from the referee was wrong but that the tech assistants were right not to intervene.

The report noted: "The panel discussed this decision at length with the majority (3:2) deeming the onfield decision incorrect, noting that the Dundee defender fouled the Rangers attacker. Two panellists believed that the contact was not sufficient to merit the award of a penalty. The majority (3:2) believed the VAR was correct not to intervene while two panellists believed a penalty should have been awarded after a VAR intervention."

In another incident between Celtic and Falkirk, the Bairns had Michael McKenna sent off for a foul. And it was a unanimous decision that the card was correct. The reason given was: "The panel unanimously deemed the on-field decision correct, noting that the Falkirk player made contact with the Celtic player above the knee while leading with his studs."

In total, 17 decisions were deliberated on involving the likes of St Johnstone and Ross County with just the Gers penalty being deemed as a wrong call on the pitch.
