Raquel Pennington on UFC 205 Miesha Tate Fight: ‘I Have Everything to Gain’

Eighth-ranked women’s bantamweight Raquel Pennington heads into her UFC 205 bout against former champion Miesha Tate without much to lose, but everything to gain.

Tate lost the belt to Amanda Nunes in her last outing at UFC 200. She’s the former Strikeforce champion. She’s coached The Ultimate Fighter opposite Ronda Rousey. Tate’s name value is as high as her top contender ranking, and Pennington knows how big of an opportunity that she has on Nov. 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

“It’s an exciting fight. Obviously, Miesha and I have history. I was on The Ultimate Fighter. She was my coach on there. We were friends. I went out and trained with her for her second fight camp against Ronda,” said Pennington during an appearance on UFC Unfiltered.

“There’s a storyline there, so it’s exciting to have this opportunity. She has a huge name and stuff, and everybody knows who she is. It’s just the perfect opportunity,” she added. “I’m extremely excited. I’ve never been more motivated for a fight.”

“Rocky” is riding a three-fight winning streak and hopes to keep the momentum going by securing the biggest win over her career over Tate.

“I have everything to gain from this fight,” she said. “I’m just focused on me being the best of me and going in there and getting done what needs to get done.”
