The second goal came seconds after Virgil Van Dijk set a close range header wide from a corner when left unmarked.

But on 38 minutes Juan Mata should have added a third following a perfect Alexis Sanchez cross. Mata was unmarked six yards from goal and could have taken a touch but instead scissor-kicked his shot past the post.

After the break, Liverpool completely overran the home side for the first 15 minutes.
