Reading exited the Vertu Trophy in dramatic circumstances, drawing 1-1 with Walsall while down to nine men before losing 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

Take a look at our ratings below

David Button, 4: A day to forget for the experienced shot stopper, failing to command his box and sent off for good measure.

Ashqar Ahmed, 5: Going forward, the youngster looked impressive and the teenager was beating his opposite number at will. Unfortunately, the defensive side of the game required work and his two yellow cards and subsequent sending off will be a big learning opportunity for him.

Louie Holzman, 7: Won everything in the air and looked composed with the ball at his feet. Even tucked away his penalty like a veteran forward in the shootout.

Harlee Dean, 6: Won his duals and lead the back line well. An much-needed experienced head among young faces.

Andre Garcia, 5: Similar to Ahmed on the other side, Walsall were having too much joy out wide. 36-year-old Albert Adomah gave the 17-year-old a steep learning curve in the life of a full-back.

Michael Craig, 5: Still young but one of the more experienced players on the pitch, and back in his natural midfield position, the former Spurs youngster failed to live up to the pre-game hopes. Struggled to progress the ball and saw lots of his passes go backwards or sideways

Charlie Savage, 6: Looked determined to progress the ball and wanted to get something happening desperately but not a great deal seemed to come off. Rested for the second half ahead of Saturday's visit of Blackpool.

Tyler Sackey, 7: Full of hustle and bustle and was in the right place at the right time to score. Probably should have netted a brace, missing a big chance minutes before opening the scoring. Looked the most likely of the youngsters to make the step into the regular League One line-up.

Mamadi Camara, 5: Nothing appeared to come off for the youngster, despite now being a semi-regular in the league side.

Jayden Wareham, 6: An impressive all-round performance from the forward, who did everything but score with limited time with the ball at his feet. Seeing his penalty save will disappoint the former Chelsea youngster.

Substitute

Charlie Wellens, 6: Looked good on the ball, very neat and tidy.

Jay Senga, 6: Saw little of the ball and was 'all hands on deck' by the time he arrived due to the red cards.

Tom Norcott, 7: Commanded his area and made some terrific saves to keep the Royals in it. Unlucky not to keep a clean sheet.
