Jose Mourinho remains a target for the Saudi Pro League as the former Chelsea manager searches for his next managerial opportunity.

Mourinho was recently linked with another sensational return to Stamford Bridge following Mauricio Pochettino's shock sacking, though Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca is now the frontrunner to replace the Argentine.

With the vacant position in the Stamford Bridge dugout set to be filled, Mourinho will have to turn his attention elsewhere and could follow a path many have taken within the last 12 months by heading for the Middle East.

A report by The Telegraph has stated there is an expectation a "fresh attempt" will be made to bring the Portuguese coach to the Saudi Pro League this summer.

It is suggested the club in question is Al-Qadsiah, local rivals to Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq, who have earned promoted to the SPL. Commenting on the possibility of this taking place, Saudi Pro League chief football executive Michael Emenalo said: "Jose is a brand in his own…Whether he’s ready to come or whether a club in our league is ready for him is something that needs to be determined."

Mourinho saw his name being chanted by Blues supporters during a 2-2 draw with Brentford in March and responded to fans calling for his return by saying: "The first feeling is I always say that the best thing football has is the fans. Because the fans don’t make money with football – they spend money with football! Sometimes they spend money that the family needs and they make sacrifices because of the passion for football and especially for the passion for their clubs.

"So normally they are fair. When the club’s fans don’t like the players, don’t like the coach, for some reason, it’s not because beautiful eyes, it’s not because handsome guy. They love it, or they don’t love it, for some reason.

"In my case, independent of results – of course I had the luck always to have something to celebrate, something for the fans to have a good memory of me – but I think something that they see is when you are committed to them."
